O'ahu
I did a total of 5 dives in O’ahu in order to get my advanced open water certification. For those of you unfamiliar with PADI and its certifications, having my advanced open water basically makes me an intermediate diver. Confusing, right? For those of you familiar with PADI, get your advanced open water certification- it’s waaay easier than getting your open water. Plus I actually have something passing for buoyancy control now!
I would like to say that I don’t have any videos from my first 3 dives at Shark’s Cove (named for its shape, not for its contents) but that would sadly be a lie. I did take some videos there as part of my certification but they are *cough* lacking. All credit for all of the videos posted here has to go to Nicolas, a far superior underwater videographer (it’s way harder than it looks, people).
This dive site was the Sea Tiger, a sunken Chinese trading vessel. If you have ever wondered what it is like to slowly descend from blue nothingness into the outline of a sunken ship, have I got a video for you!
Creepy things happen in the deep…
J/K that skeleton was put there one year on halloween*
Our final dive site in O’ahu was Nautilus Reef. We saw lots of fun critters there, including a bunch of octopuses (squeal) but those shy masters of camouflage are incredibly hard to photograph. So enjoy some videos of marine mega-fauna, like these lovely green sea turtles:
*No humans were harmed in the filming of these videos
Or these whitetip reef sharks:
Ok this last video is a green sea turtle again. But this time it’s swimming! Also watch to the end for a fun surprise.
Did you catch those two super eager novice divers being carried by their exasperated dive master?
Nicolas and I will be back on O’ahu in about a month and hopefully we’ll get to check out a few more of the shipwrecks
